Updated: Zune is Dead? The Hardware Anyway :(

Reports are coming in that Zune hardware is dead! According to Bloomberg, a “person familiar with the decision” has confirmed that Microsoft won’t be producing any new Zune players. They will instead focus on the Zune software that on all Xbox 360 and Windows Phone devices. We still haven’t heard if the name will stick around, hopefully it does since the name has really grown on me.

There you have it, My pleading and ranting for a Zune HD2 looks like it fell on deaf ears.

We will keep a close eye on Zune for any new developments.

UPDATE: Microsoft replies to the rumors

“We have nothing to announce about another Zune device – but most recently have introduced Zune HD to Canada via Zune Originals store and remain committed to supporting our devices in North America. We are thrilled by the consumer excitement for Zune across many new platforms, including Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360. Our long-term strategy focuses on the strength of the entire Zune ecosystem across Microsoft platforms.”

Yep Sounds like the end of the line for the hardware unless they come out with an Xbox branded portable device.
