China Mobile: Nokia Announces First Carrier Partner For Windows Phone

August 16, 2011 No Comments

Nokia is starting to lineup their launch partners for Windows Phone and its first pick is Chine Mobile. With 600 million subscribers under its name, Mobile China will be offering Nokia Windows Phones at launch. Nokia however did fail to say when this launch would occur. Devices launched under China Mobile’s 3G network sadly will not work on any other networks around the world.

“China Mobile is the country’s largest mobile phone operator, with more than 600 million subscribers that account for about two-third of China’s total mobile phone market. To operate on China Mobile’s 3G network, the phones will have to use the TD-SCDMA standard, meaning Nokia Windows Phone devices launching in China will not operate on networks of other carriers around the world.”

Hopefully with Nokia’s help, Windows Phone can gain some traction and win over Chine Mobile’s 600 million subscribers. Remember, Nokia still has a firm grasp over seas and still remains the top handset maker in China.
