ITC judgment of HTC infringement of Apple patents Help Windows Phone

July 19, 2011 No Comments

Android has been under fire recently after HTC lost its battle against Apple as the The US International Trade Commission (ITC) made it’s ruling that HTC infringes on 2 Apple patents via Android. We have already seen many companies run to Microsoft to make mobile patent deals but we might see companies start to choose Windows Phone over Android in fear of legal battles with Apple and Microsoft alike. The worst thing about all of this for OEM’s is that Google stands back and do nothing while the likes of HTC (which has helped Android gain tons of popularity) get knocked around in court by Apple.

according to China-based 21st Century Business Herald:

Some of these vendors worry about the risk of becoming embroiled in patent infringement due to adoption of Android, and have drawn up three strategies to cope with potential impact. The three strategies are enhancement of support to Microsoft Mango operating system, promotion of smartphone customization by mobile telecom carriers for protection through binding common interest (especially carriers partnering with Apple and Microsoft), self-development of own operating systems, the source pointed out. China-based smartphone vendors Huawei Device and ZTE have planned to adopt Mango, the source indicated.

Google’s Open Source “free” mobile operating system costs nothing upfront but tons of cash in lawsuits, legal fees and patent deals. In the long run it will benefit Microsoft’s Windows Phone as manufacturers step in and choose to step away from the legal drama which is Android.
