Imitation the Sincerest Form of Flattery? Google IO Goes Metro UI

I am beginning to wonder whether companies are able to be innovative anymore. We have written numerous articles going over different ideas that Apple has clearly taken from Microsoft and then passes it off as theirs. Clearly, Google has turned to Apple’s methods and taken the tile concept for the Google IO conference website. Clearly they could have organized the website another way. I wonder how many people will think Google’s “idea” for the Google IO website is such an innovative concept. Meanwhile we’ve been using Metro UI on our Windows Phone 7 devices for months now.
