Creators of USA Today App Sing Praises to WP7 Development Experience

May 17, 2011 No Comments

USA Today recently released their official app and user feedback was very good. I was surprised to learn that USA Today didn’t hire outside developers and instead they made their own app in-house. The developers decided to talk about their experience with developing for Windows Phone 7 via the USA Today.com TechLabs:

“………We think we got there and, in the process, became quite enamored with the platform. Who knows, there may be more apps coming soon on this platform ;-).

The Windows Phone 7 development experience itself was an enjoyable one. Our Digital Development group has primarily been a C# ASP/.NET shop over the years. As we approached WP7, we were able to hit the ground running thanks to our familiarity of the Visual Studio development environment. The Silverlight for
Windows Phone toolkit and the fast emulator that comes with it made it easy to get up and running with little Silverlight xperience. That same high bar for tools extends into the community as well. MVVM Light and JSON.Net were extremely useful moving past mundane tasks and instead getting to the business of building our app……..”

As I had said before it is awesome for developers to come forward and discuss their experiences with WP7. The more positive feedback it gets the more other devs might become interested in trying it out.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to check out the USA Today app.
