What Caused Yesterday’s Issue With the Marketplace?

May 6, 2011 No Comments

Many of you probably didn’t even notice that there was an issue with the Marketplace yesterday. While there was still access to the Marketplace many phones experienced problems downloading or updating apps.Upon attempting to download an application to your phone an error message stating ‘Can’t get this info right now. Check back in a little while.’

The folks at the Windows Phone Blog took the time to update us on the cause of yesterday’s issue. According to a post by Michael Stroh, “The problem was the result of scheduled maintenance being performed on Microsoft’s infrastructure during the night.  The root cause of this issue has been identified and steps are being taken to help prevent future disruptions to the Marketplace service.”

The problem was corrected in a timely manner and looks like they got it figured out so it shouldn’t be a recurrence.  However, they could have given a better explanation, the little bit that they gave was intentionally vague.
