It’s 100% Official: Nokia and Microsoft Sign Contract
April 21, 2011 No CommentsGood news for us WP7 lovers, the contract between Nokia and Microsoft has been signed. While we all pretty much knew it was a sure thing, the contract of course makes it final.
Microsoft phone unit President Andy Lees and Nokia Executive Vice President Kai Oistamo both stressed that things are ahead of schedule and that a lot of progress has been made since February.
“We’ve gotten to where we have gotten to faster than we thought,” Lees said. “Now we know who is exactly writing each piece of code.”
There have been reports of Nokia WP7 phones being spotted, including one being toted around by chief executive officer of Nokia Corporation, Stephen Elop.
“The products are not done yet,” Oistamo said. “But you can already see the signs. Everything that we talked conceptually with you in London is actually coming into real fruition.”
According to Nokia Executive Vice President Kai Oistamo, the goal of releasing the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 this year has not changed.
“The preference and the ambition has definitely not changed, the sooner the better,” Oistamo said.
Unfortunately, while the Nokia Windows Phone 7 handsets released this year will “be very distinctly Nokia”, there will not be a lot of time for them to make their handsets as distinct as we all would have hoped.
“We are jumping into a moving train,” Oistamo said. “You can do more when you have a little bit more time.”
