Zune Video Market Gaining Popularity

February 8, 2011 No Comments

Video on demand services are really increasing in popularity. It is such a convenient service. Buying movies especially new ones (because they can be so expensive) isn't just what people do anymore. I used to be one of those people who would purchase DVD's constantly but really with all the availability of digital media, I have no more reason to do so. Especially when I can simply go on my phone or fire up my Xbox and watch whatever I want that way. Also with the option to buy some movies I don't waste my space hoardind DVD's when I can simply store it on my Xbox's memory.

According to the recently released report by IHS Screen Digest the Zune Video controlled 17.9 percent of internet video on demand purchases. While Zune i certainly not leading sales at this point (iTunes is by a large margin) they are steadily increasing, having been at 11.6 percent in 2008. Also in the running and above Zune is movie purchases made through Amazon and Walmart.

While the news of Zune gaining market share with their VOD service is really good news we still have a long way to go to catch up.
