Birdsong: App Review

With so many twitter clients available right now. Not only is it hard to distinguish the bad from the good but even the good ones can't keep me away from the official twitter client. I thought that official twitter app would always remain in the same position. 8th tile down, to the left. Yeah I know, i do have tons of tiles pinned down (worse part is that's only half way down)

An unexpected thing happened recently. That official app was unpinned to make room for another twitter app. Birdsong has earned a spot on my home screen. What about Birdsong made me make the change? I would have to say everything…

The app itself doesn't feel like it's just regurgitating everything from twitter. It's actually has it's own identity. It's fast, versatile and even threads replies and direct messages. It makes you feel like your actually having a conversation instead of tweeting.

There's more to this app than that though. I like the fact that you can see each section while its loading and that you can even add different timelines to the main screen ( You can add up to 5). Which is pretty cool and useful feature. Things like your favorites, lists and searches can be added to the main screen with ease.

Birdsong also supports Bing maps and plays very nicely with your theme on your phone. The icon changes to the set up tile colors and the app itself adapts to your 'light' or 'dark' theme.

This is the best Twitter app on WP7 so far. It's not perfect though. Things like push notifications, use of live tiles and at least some sort of bookmark to signify where you were before a refresh would have given this app our first perfect score. Hopefully those 3 features will be included in some form of future update. Already it is noted that multiple account support is coming soon.

If you have a Windows Phone 7 device and love Twitter you need to try out Birdsong developed by Red Badger.
