Microsoft Presents Another “What The What? Moment” As 7 Xbox Games Are Delisted From The Windows 8 StoreJuly 6, 2014 No Comments
This weeks “What The What? Moment” comes by none other then the department running the Xbox for Windows 8 or any parties responsible. Somehow (maybe accidental, maybe on purpose) 7 hit Xbox titles where delisted as reported first by True Achievements making a once growing Xbox for Windows 8 catalog shrink even more so. The titles no longer available are as listed as below:
- Field & Stream Fishing (Win )
- Glacier Blast (Win)
- Gunpowder (Win)
- Rocket Riot 3D (Win )
- Royal Envoy 2 Special Edition (Win )
- The Harvest (Win )
- Zombies!!! (Win )
For the life of us, we can’t seem to figure out why Microsoft would have delisted the titles but our guess is that its due to the difficulty involved with updating these titles under the “Xbox umbrella”. CodeGlue’s co-founder Peter de Jong’ of the hit title Rocker Riot 3D & Rocket Riot on Windows Phone (also delisted :/) had this to say when asked about their now delisted game:
We will bring back Rocket Riot to Windows Phone and Windows 8. However, we will be doing the publishing ourselves from now on instead of Microsoft Studios. Microsoft Studios has been great for us, but it is time for us to try publishing ourselves. That said we wanted to be ready when Microsoft took down the games, but we ran into a few technical issues. Hence the delay.
There will be a few drastic (unfortunate) changes too with this transfer:
1. It will be a new game from the perspective of the Store. So if you already have the game, future updates will not be linked. So basically you have to re-buy the game. However we are looking into doing a launch first where the game is free for the first few weeks.
2. Not sure if I can mention this here, but the new version will not have LIVE functionality (you can start throwing rocks now). We will have a similar system in place, but not the LIVE system.
We are very sorry for this.
I just wanted to give you guys this update, so that you know what is going on and what to expect the next couple of weeks. We are aware we going to disappoint gamers but we also hope to make a lot gamers happy with future features we are going to implement. We are now way more flexible in doing so.
Bad beans that the “Xbox Umbrella” as we like to call it, is collapsing in this way. Our last hope is with the ID@Xbox program that enables qualified game developers of all sizes to unleash their creativity by self-publishing digital games to the Xbox One! We can only hope that the new program is extended to Windows and Windows Phone in the future as well. As for now, do yourself a favor and share the MEME below on social media to Microsoft and the guys at Xbox in protest! We deserve better Xbox support on Windows/Windows Phone!..MBGW
