Microsoft Studios Purchases Beloved Gears Of War Franchise..Could A Windows 8/ Windows Phone Version Be On The Way?January 27, 2014 No Comments
How about these apples? Today Microsoft took out its checkbook to acquire the very popular, much loved, Gears Of War franchise. A franchise that for the most part remained steady in quality and content and that has sold over 22 million units across all “Gears of War” titles worldwide. This franchise, and the fans, are part of the soul of Xbox and by acquiring GOW, Microsoft Studios is committed to continue to offer more from the “Gears of War” universe.
Epic Games has reached an agreement to sell the ‘Gears of War’ intellectual property rights to Microsoft. We’re very proud of the franchise we built in close partnership with Microsoft over the past decade and are happy that this agreement enables Microsoft to forge ahead with the ‘Gears’ universe on their industry-leading platforms as Epic concentrates its efforts on new projects,” said Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. “Epic remains totally dedicated to supporting Xbox One and is licensing the Unreal Engine 4 technology to Microsoft in support of their future projects.”
The news of this acquisition got us thinking. What if Microsoft plans for Gears Of War is bigger than the regular foreseen Xbox One title? What if they ventured out to uncharted territories with the games like what they recent pulled off with Halo: Spartan Assault and completely use the intellectual property to its full existent? Back in December we reported on a job offer from Microsoft looking for a senior engineer with services development experience to join their team to bring a “beloved franchise” to Windows 8. A game that will “have an emphasis on building a robust and highly scalable cloud service that is central to the game experience…We look at what a mobile version of Gears on Windows 8/Phone would look like with this trailer of MadFingers ShadowGun: Deadzone (GOW Ripoff)
..Welp, could be a mobile Gears, HECK, could be Banjo-Kazooie, but the thought of a fully touchscreen game experience with Gears Of War sounds like a winner and something we wouldn’t object to, not one bit.. Only time will tell but if it comes to fruition that we were right our staff will except nothing else but the latest Microsoft product(s) at the time of the games release. That is all..MBGWTags: epic, Gears of War, MadFingers, one, shadowgun, Unity, xboxAbout, Apps, Featured, Games, News, Windows 8
