Microsoft Might be Giving Windows Phone OS Away to HTC? Dual Boot W/ Android Devices?
October 4, 2013 No CommentsWe have heard stories on how HTC is still very much interested in still making Windows Phone devices. Reports from Bloomberg however state different as they say the OEM has no plans to continue making Windows Phone devices at this time.
Bloomberg’s sources also add that Microsoft has begun conversations with HTC that may conclude with Microsoft actually deeply discounting or even giving away the Windows Phone OS to HTC. The most shocking part of the report however is the fact that Microsoft may actually allow the OS to be dual booted from HTC devices running Google’s Android.
Bloomberg:
Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft’s operating systems unit, asked HTC last month to load Windows Phone as a second option on handsets with Google Inc. (GOOG)’s rival software, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. Myerson discussed cutting or eliminating the license fee to make the idea more attractive, the people said. The talks are preliminary and no decision has been made, two people said.
I honestly think that Microsoft should be giving the OS away to OEM’s already and actually try selling their services more through the platform.
Thoughts?
