XBLA Title, Limbo Out Now For iOS…A Comprehensive List Of XBLA Titles Now On iOS & Not Windows Phone

July 14, 2013 1 Comment

It’s been 3 years since the original Windows Phone launched giving us the world’s first and only smartphone with integrated Microsoft services and offerings like Office 2013 and Xbox Live. With the launch of the phone we have been treated to an onslaught of attacks ranging from the fact that the OS doesn’t bode well with those hardcore mobile users that need features Microsoft is sure to bring in the future. Another hefty criticism is the fact the OS still lacks major apps and that the platform doesn’t even use its primary selling points like Xbox Live which is baked right in. Recently,(and some not very recently) the top 45 Xbox Live Arcade Titles were ported to iOS and/or Android, leaving Windows Phone (the phone with Xbox) users with only 15 titles under its belt. The list is as follows:

After 3 years of the Windows Phone platform being available, we were almost sure Microsoft would refocus on creating new games like Skulls Of  The Shogun ,but at the same time bring over classic hit titles to build its mobile catalog such as Limbo  among others(see below). In spite of being first available on XBLA, independent game developer, PlayDead has now made the classic available to download for $4.99 on iOS. For those unaware of what Limbo is, check out the trailer below:

And as good as Limbo looks and as easy as you think it would have been to port it to Windows Phone, (hec, Windows anything) check out the List of games of direct ports of XBLA title that went to iOS over Windows Phones in the last 3 years:

UPDATED AS OF: 7/15/2013

Now, although this list is pretty huge, it continues to grow each and every month without even promised titles like Zen Pinball /PinballFX and Sonic 4 Episode II showing its face on the WP platform. Limitations such as not having  native support for C++ and hardware shortcomings are now a thing of the past with Windows Phone 8, but the issue of getting developers on board still remains and that is something MS needs to face head on. In order to deliver on the promise of Xbox Live games on the go, MS needs to dig deep out of its own corner to bring over titles already in its existing  library. I encourage everyone who reads this and agrees to Retweet or post this to the guys that could make some of these titles a reality, like Larry A Lieberman,or Casey A McGee over at Microsoft. This is your chance to let your voices be heard!..mbgw
