What Codemasters Games Success With Colin McRae Rally On iOS May Mean For Windows PhoneJuly 7, 2013 1 Comment
Codemasters Games, known for such quality console racing titles like Dirt 3 and Grid 2 has finally ported over its classic game Colin McRae Rally (the prequel to Dirt) to a new generation of gamers on the iOS. This news may be great for those who are on iOS, but what we’ve learned is that it’s success on the platform may very well influences Codemasters decision on porting the game and others like it to Android, but more importantly our beloved Windows Phone.

In a recent interview with Pocketgamer.biz, Codemasters’ VP of digital business, Gary Rowe sat down for an in-depth interview on the companies future on the mobile market and plans on bringing other ports to smartphones. When asked “if their primary focus is solely on iOS, or could we see Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry being brought into play as well?” they responded in saying, “We’re leading on iOS, but we have plans to provide our games on Android and Windows and Blackberry devices”
This gives us a clear indication that indeed Codemaster has plans on bringing over their titles to other platforms but what’s more interesting is the fact that they are using iOS as a stepping ground into mobile gaming. The success they achieve on iOS is detrimental to the willingness the company will have in porting over more titles to more platforms in the future. What they did say on the success of this game hinging on the porting of more of their classic catalog says that if this game is a complete flop then our dreams of getting them to carryout their plans on Windows Phone will be a distant memory…So for once and one time only, GO iOS!…MBGWTags: codemasters, colin mcrae rally, dirt, Games, grid, IOS, pocketgamer.biz, Port, RacingAbout, Apps, Featured, Games, How To, Interviews, News
