Microsoft Graciously Retrieves Developer Prototype Lumia 920 Running Early Windows Phone 8.1(Blue) BuildJune 9, 2013 1 Comment
Over the weekend we learned about Jeremiah Wong, a member of Reddit who purchased a Nokia Lumia 920 only to discover that it was actually a developer device sporting early software for the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 (Codenamed) Blue. He then posted screenshots and info that sparked great interest in features that were much requested for Windows Phone including an early build of a notification center. The guys over at The Verge reached out to the Reddit user for the story of ”golden Windows Phone”.
Wong said the device had “pretty much everything he wanted,” but that “a few things needed work still.” Those screenshots revealed Microsoft’s effort in bringing a notification center to Windows Phone and improvements ranging from being able to close apps that are multitasking to being able to sort apps by most frequent use instead of by name.
After accidentally revealing his cellphone number in one of the posted shots on Reddit ,Microsoft’s legal team soon after contacted Mr. Wong and requested the posted photos be removed from his Flickr account. They soon after remotely locked the phone. ”Apparently the guy who owned it lost it on a bus. It was then picked up and sold,” Wong explained to The Verge. Microsoft graciously offered a full reimbursement for the full cost of the Lumia and also offered to ship him a replacement phone. Talk about a great move by Microsoft!..No word on what kind of charges the Ebay user who sold the device may be facing but our guess is that they won’t be good..For more on Mr. Wong’s story head over to The Verge!…MBGW
