Bloomberg: Nokia Investing in Pelican Imaging for Lytro-style Post Focus Image EditingApril 30, 2013 1 Comment
Nokia makes sure that photography on their devices always stand-out. From Pureview, to OIS, amazing low light images, etc., Nokia’s camera phones are second to none. Now, it looks like Nokia is working on the next killer Lumia feature as Bloomberg is reporting that Nokia is investing in Pelican Imaging.
Pelican Imaging, a California startup is working on array camera technology for smartphones.
Array cameras offer similar benefits to Lytro’s light field technique, allowing photographers to adjust an image’s focus after it has been captured, but use a single self-contained module with multiple optics. This means they can forgo the traditional separate lens, making them more compact and appropriate for use in smartphones.

“It’s very complicated to do this algorithmically and Pelican is one of the companies that has mastered this technology,”
It looks like sooner or later, Nokia will have another feature to boast about on their Lumia handsets.
