Microsoft Working on Xbox Enabled Smart Watches?

April 17, 2013 2 Comments

We have seen ‘smart’ watches before and even saw firm trying to create Windows Phone enabled ones as well. TheVerge is reporting however that we actually might see Microsoft themselves coming out with one in the near future.

They state that a reliable source familiar with Microsoft’s Xbox plans has stated that the company has been developing a wrist-worn ‘smart’ watch for over a year. Microsoft’s Xbox smartwatch is said to be in the prototype phase and feature a 1.5inch display and removable bands. One of the prototypes even includes a MagSafe-like connector like the Microsoft Surface which transmits power and data.

Microsoft attempted a smartwatch before back in 2004 via the SPOT brand. The watches used FM Radio signals to get news, weather and stock information. The products however didn’t last very long and was discontinued a few years later.

It’ll be very interesting to see exactly what Microsoft is up to and is it in line with the next Xbox console. Better yet, how connected will all of these products be? Hopefully Windows Phone will be included as something this smart watch connects to.
