Post Windows Phone 7.8 update hinted at in latest Nokia leak

November 17, 2012 2 Comments

Yep, that’s right folks. Looks like the sad ending that was expected will not come after all. It appears Windows Phone 7.x may live on in the after life after all. A new leaked slide for a Nokia presentation shows what appears to be Nokia’s and Microsoft’s plans to continue to update their devices, even with the new Windows Phone 8 platform as their dominate OS. The German site WParea.de some how got their lucky little mitts on more of the documentations from their anonymous source. Below is just one of the 25 slides they were sent:

The official Windows Phone Russia twitter handle also backs these claims up saying that in fact there will be 18 months of support for Windows Phone 7.8 phones in the future.

Looks to be indeed be a sign that Nokia has never, and will never forget their customers. Who knows what these future updates may bring, but at the least we can will be able to yell out proudly “I own a 3 year old Nokia Lumia and still receive official updates.” Something an android user will never be able to even whisper…MBGW

This would only make sense as Nokia is introducing a new low-end 7.8 phone from what we saw posted a few weeks ago. So, released to RTM means this avenue is still being made available to new devices, and older devices can still be sold, such as the Lumia 710 and 800, etc. Why not? It is “buyer” beware on Android, as you need to make sure you look at the fine print to be sure you are getting the latest OS. This is good for those of us sporting relatively new devices, such as my HTC Titan. I am not yet ready to commit to a WP8 phone, and there are yet rumors of another HTC device on the horizon, possible carriers in Japan coming on board, which would be the best solution yet for me.

So I will just hang out with my Titan and my new Surface due to hit my office this afternoon!
