No More Metro UI? Metro Name to be Rebranded

August 3, 2012 2 Comments

It looks like we won’t be talking about the Metro UI on Windows Phone, Windows, Xbox, well any Microsoft platform really. TheVerge is reporting that after “discussions with an important European partner”, Microsoft will  “discontinue the use” of the Metro brand.

For now the “Metro” that we all know and love is to go by  “Windows 8 style UI.”

I know it is something minor but it is something that just doesn’t sit well with me. “Metro” has gone from Windows Phone to Xbox and finally now on Windows 8 and for the whole movement to be dubbed  “Windows 8 style UI” just doesn’t feel right.

Plus the name just worked! Hopefully the new name is something that is as catchy and still retains the meaning behind the movement.

Let us all remember where and how Metro UI was born in the first place.
