Microsoft Files For ‘Mobile Kinect’ and ‘Living Room Movie Creation’ Patents

August 3, 2012 2 Comments

Microsoft has recently submitted an application for a mobile Kinect like device. Although it does not mention ‘kinect’ it describes the mobile device as one that captures and updates “parameters which specify how the mobile depth camera has moved.” We are talking about a Kinect that can reestablish where it’s being positioned in a room.

Can this be geared towards Windows Phone? Only time will tell…

Microsoft was also busy filing for another patent that is geared towards “living room movie creation”. This one definitely has Kinect written all over it. It goes on to say that “movies can be directed, captured, and edited using a system that includes a depth camera,” and that various real life objects can be implemented “as virtual props.”

Pretty cool!

Hopefully Microsoft shares more info on these two ideas soon.
