Goodbye Hotmail! Hello Outlook.com!!! (Thoughts, Features, Poll)

July 31, 2012 1 Comment

Today Microsoft said goodbye to Hotmail and introduced Outlook.com. Let me just start off by saying that this change not only made sense but was done brilliantly from top to bottom. The Metro looks great while delivering your emails and this service has so many tricks up its sleeves that I do not know where to start.

The layout is amazing from top to bottom.

Everything is clear and straight to the point. I can’t say enough on how visually striking Metro looks on Outlook.com. From the fonts, styles, spacing, everything is here and done correctly to put what is important first, your emails.

You can even chat with anyone straight from your email. Messenger just slides out and you can have a full on conversation with friends, clients, family, etc. The killer feature in communication however is that Skype is fully integrated as well.

This combination of email, messenger and video conferencing make this offering from Microsoft second to none in my opinion. Now getting to the actual emails you can connect your Yahoo and other services and integrate it with Outlook.com. You have the choice of adding it to your inbox or creating anew folder for the service. Also important is the fact that you can create aliases using ‘@outlook.com. Not sure how many you can add as extras but I have 3 so far and going strong.

Now as far as multimedia is concerned, Outlook.com does an amazing job. It scans the email for images (even if its a link to Flickr) and displays it as a slideshow.

To top it off, you can open documents straight from the email client.

Even your contacts look amazing…

Have you tried outlook.com yet? What do you think?
