Native Screen Capture Finally Coming to Windows Phone

July 17, 2012 6 Comments

A developer and press tool that consumers also use regularly the ability to take a picture of your phones screen. Screen capture has been baked into OS’s like IOS for ages and for awhile even folks like me had no way of showing off what was happening on my screen. Not until last year did we gain that ability with a homebrew app that was created by an XDA member called Screen Capturer.

Finally this will all come to an end as WPDang is reporting that screen capture will finally be making its way to Windows Phone via Apollo (Windows Phone 8). This has been a long time coming but finally we will gain that ability without having to side-load an homebrew apps. Supposedly, the feature will be used by holding down the Windows button and camera buttons. The photo will then be saved automatically onto your devices pictures hub.

Two buttons to get a screen capture is clumsy at best. Needs to be one button. Since holding down back opens up the multi-tasking options and the windows logo opens up voice options, it only makes sense to ues the search button. Hold down the search button and a screen capture is taken. Metro = simple but still functional!

I don’t like the search button anyways… The Bing app makes it feel constricted… I feel it should just search anything I need in any app.. not bring me to the bing app unless I press and hold it while in a diff app and or if I press it on the home screen.

I have to agree with you. The search button should search your current page / hold down to search bing. Or the opposite. Another option for screen capture would be the back button. Hold it down to open up the multi tasking and then there could be a camera button under each screen that you could press to capture the screen.
On another note, I have always thought the multi task screen should have a way to close out a task. This could be a simple X under the screen image.
