Nokia Sues RIM Over 3 Patents – RIM Likely to Countersue
July 11, 2012 1 CommentStephen Elop and Nokia aren’t messing around. Recently they spoke up about how Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet infringes upon its patents. Now Nokia has actually sued RIM over 3 more patents over in Germany (Nokia filed patent lawsuits against HTC, Viewsonic and RIM 3 months ago). FOSS Patents notes that Nokia has a stronger IP portfolio than RIM, but Rim will likely choose to counter-sue.
The patents in questions are:
- EP1474750: on a “method and system for storing and transferring multimedia tags” (Nokia is also asserting this one against HTC in Mannheim.)
- EP08040461: on a “method and apparatus for updating the software of a mobile terminal using the air interface”
- EP1148681: on a “method for transferring resource information”
This should get really interesting as Nokia really begins to protect its IP.
