How to Force Tango Update on Your Device

With the Tango update rolling out to different devices around the world, we thought we’d remind you of an old trick that seems to still be working to this day. If you know that your carrier is rolling out the Tango update for your specific device already, there is a simple trick you can do to force the update on your device.

The following has been working since NoDo was released ages ago.

Start Zune
Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
Start the update search in Zune
About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
Zune finds Mango-Update. Press OK.
Connect to the internet again and install the update.

There you have it, this quick and easy trick will work if (and only if ) your carrier has already began rolling out the update.

The trick did not work. For my product code on the website update is available. Zune is not found. Did all the instructions, Zune has found 8773 and installed, but after installing and the phone, and Zune write that version 8112.
I wonder what and where all this time installed Zune: D

Worked a treat on my UK Lumia 800 (CPW variant). Took a little fine tuning working out exactly when to kill the internet but got it on about the 3rd try.

it is just funny, didn’t think it would work , I counted 1000, 2000 etc until it gave me you r up to date fake message on 10000, minus 3 it is 7000 , I disconnected on this particular number and from the first try I got an update , it is on progress now

Hi, it didn’t work for me. I have the same result as JustMF. Installs the update but then I have 8112 on my Nokia 710 instead the 8773

This works for O2 UK Lumia 800. If you have a fast internet connection then the gap between Zune looking to see if there is an update and looking to see if your carrier has OK’d it is very small.
Disconnecting too soon = “can’t search right now” message, Disconnecting too late = “your phone is up to date” message.
I had to try about 6-7 times to get it just right.

Worked for me as well on the Lumia 900, thank you! I didn’t know you had to turn off Wifi/Data on my phone as well.

the phone supposedly went through 10 updates but at the end when I restarted it, I see no difference … nothing has changed… This is my first and last windows device … I am tired of microsoft screwing things up …
