Notifications and Additional Features Coming to WP7 Skype App

May 29, 2012 2 Comments

As many Skype users on Windows Phone are aware, the Marketplace application available doesn’t exactly provide an optimal experience; most problematically, you can’t receive messages or phone calls in the background, a problem Skype’s other smartphone apps don’t have. (Ironic, considering Skype’s owners.) However, good news: New York Times reports that the Skype team is working on overcoming technical limitations to make the Windows Phone app more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the update time frame given is quite vague:

Brian O’Shaughnessy, a spokesman for Skype, said that shortcoming would be addressed in a future version of the software.

Oh, well. We can only hope that the next version of Skype is infinitely more usable than the current iteration (and perhaps even works on phones with less than 256mb of RAM).
