Nokia’s Superhydrophobic Coating Closer to Reality (Water Proof)

May 28, 2012 1 Comment

Back in March we posted a video featuing Nokia’s research labs at work on this Superhydrophobic Coating to keep phones dry. During the Nokia Lumia 610 launch in London, Vice President of Nokia Western Europe showed off the same technology to make your phone waterproof.

“The biggest challenge is making nanostructures robust enough to withstand every day wear and tear. You could put a superhydrophobic coating inside a device now because people can’t degrade it, it can’t get knocked around in your pocket. To put it on the outside is much, much tougher. But you want it on the outside because that’s where you see the effects of keeping your phone really clean.”

Also of note is that The Inquirer expects this technology to one all future Nokia pureview and Lumia devices as a standard.

Check out the cool video of the tech at work here.
