Nokia Branded Marketplace Spotted Again (Barnes & Noble, Samsung to Follow?)

May 10, 2012 1 Comment

Remember when we wrote about a little rumor that a Nokia branded Marketplace would be arriving soon? Well the icon has been spotted again, on this post Tango Lumia 900 from the UK.

What does this mean exactly? It means that Nokia will have its own dedicated marketplace probably to house all of those Nokia exclsuive applications they announced recently. Now the interesting part about all this is in fact if other companies will follow suit. For instance Samsung and Microsoft agreed to “cooperate in the development and marketing” of Windows Phone last year and recently Barnes & Noble joined the team and the deal includes references to branded Windows Phone Marketplaces that can be operated by Microsoft or its affiliates.

I think this is perfectly fine and not “segmentation”. HTC, Samsung, etc. have a need to differentiate themselves with other phone makers and this might just be one of those differences that lead you to choose one over the other.

What do you guys think?
