Microsoft to Preview Xbox Music service at E3 (Woodstock)? Available on Android & IOS Too?

April 25, 2012 1 Comment

The rumors have been out for awhile now that Zune will be getting replaced by Xbox Music. Zune is already starting to die slowly as Microsoft ripped its ability to download Windows Phone apps. Now TheVerge is reporting that Xbox Music (codenamed Woodstock) would be previewed at E3 this year. To me that makes alot of sense and it is a step in the right direction even though I do love everything Zune related. Re-branding is inevitable however and using the Xbox name is the smart thing to do.

However, according to the article by TheVerge, Xbox Music will be cross-platform and will also be available on IOS and Android. What sense does that make as Windows Phone is trying to push its way to more market share and its main opponents are Android and IOS? I have heard time and time again that one of the biggest reasons someone purchased a Windows Phone was for Zune. I ranted about Kinectimals being available on IOS before but this is a huge mistake by Microsoft in my opinion. The music service will already be gaining alot more attention due to the fact that it comes bundled with Windows 8. Now if it is available via the web on those said platforms but not a dedicated app, I can see how it might work as a tease.

Hopefully this little tidbit of information is NOT true but like always… only time will tell.

What do you guys think?
