Next Gen Xbox (Durango) Shipping With 16-core CPU? Blu-ray player?

April 10, 2012 4 Comments

It is so hard to try and get the slightest bit of information regarding future hardware releases, especially those that could still be 2 years off. Cnet  is reporting however that Microsoft has shipped versions of the new Xbox hardware, due at the end of 2013, to programmers to start coding games for the system.

Apparently the hardware in question is a 16-core IBM PowerPC CPU (Xbox 360 has a three-core CPU), an AMD Radeon HD 7000-series GPU and a built-in Blu-ray playerCnet  is also reporting that the next version of Kinect might require four of those 16 CPU cores, so that explains the 16-core CPU.

We have no idea what this all sums up to as far as how the games will look and play but with a 16-Core CPU and Blu-Ray, it looks like Microsoft will be making hardcore gamers very happy whenever the next generation of Xbox ships.
