Zune & Windows Live Branding Killed Off in Windows 8

It looks like Zune as a brand is no more as it has been taken off of Windows 8. Surprisingly enough, Windows Live did not make the cut either. Here is a list of what services are going to be looking like as 2012 rolls though.

  • Microsoft Account (Windows Live ID)
  • Mail (Windows Live Mail)
  • Calendar (Windows Live Calendar)
  • People (Windows Live Contacts)
  • Photos (Windows Live Photo Gallery)
  • Music (Zune Music Player)
  • Video (Zune Video Player)

As long as the music service remains the same, I think at this point in time it would make sense to drop the branding and integrate all the services.

Zune fans aren’t going anywhere because we are already hooked on the service. This will only help get everyone else on board.

    You’re correct as long as the service stays intact I don’t really care what they call it.

    I am not certain what this means, exactly. I am very fond of the Zune software. I think the software is a huge reason why it is better than rhapsody and itunes. It is creative and engaging. I am hoping they do not scrap it and go with something that is completely boring and stuffy. Based on the direction MS is going with things though, I doubt they will. I have a Zune player and love it, and it has been the primary reason why I am headed to a WP. I am biding my time though, as it seems that the platform is really just now starting to get some momentum, especially with Nokia’s involvement.

    I think its a smart move. I love the service but IMHOthe “zune” name is linked to total failure since the ipod/itunes beat it out years back.
