Microsoft Replacing Zune With Xbox Live Music Services?

February 18, 2012 1 Comment

Rumors are making its way around the Internet again about Zune getting the ax and Xbox Live Music Services taking its place. Zune users cannot live without Zune but still it hasn’t been as successful as Microsoft has hoped. Would it make sense to just change its branding to Xbox Live?

Microsoft is also in talks supposedly with record companies to try and get more rights for streaming music. Rumors are even swirling also about Microsoft teaming up with HTC and Nokia to try and make these deals happen. Some say this can create some type of Spotify like service that does not require you to pay to stream music. Current Zune Pass subscribers will be able to keep their current subscription model if they so choose.

I love the Zune branding and I have used Zune ever since it launched a few years ago. Would I miss it? I most certainly would but Xbox Live is most certainly a more recognizable brand and if that would increase awareness of Microsoft’s music offerings and in turn maybe shine some more light on Windows Phone than goodbye Zune – hello Xbox Live Music (as long as I can keep my subscription just the way it is).
