Microsoft Announces 6 New Markets for Windows Phone Developers

January 6, 2012 1 Comment

The Windows Phone team shared some great news with developers recently as they announced that they were opening up the marketplace to 6 new markets.

The new markets are:

  • Argentina
  • China
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Peru
  • Philippines

Now this doesn’t mean however that the marketplace is yet available in those countries but it does mean that it will be soon. So you can start cranking out those apps in anticipations of the marketplace arriving to those countries.

The Windows Phone team also noted that 3 out of the 6 countries will need to follow extra rules because some content may be considered ‘offensive in certain countries because of local laws or cultural norms’.

Countries/regions for which one or more parts of 3.10 may apply include the following:

Group 1:

Group 2:
Malaysia, Indonesia

Examples of potentially offensive content in certain countries/regions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • People in revealing clothing or in sexually suggestive poses
  • Religious references
  • Alcohol references
  • Sexual or bathroom humor
  • Simulated or actual gambling

That sounds like half the apps in every app store I have ever visited. Either Way, more markets equals more ways a developer can succeed on Windows Phone so this is very good news.
