The Windows Phone site allaboutwindowsphone has announced that Microsoft has actually hit the big 50K app milestone a lot sooner than expected
The Windows Phone Marketplace has now passed the 50,000 app and games submission mark. Content is being added at the rate of 265 items per day. At the time of writing, 50,126 items have been published. Of these, 17,276 were added in the last 90 days and 8,010 were added in the last 30 days. These items come from 13,002 different publishers.
It took a bit over a year for Windows Phone to hit 40,000 apps but only 40 days to get another 10,000.
Interesting enough, Microsoft has positioned itself as a close #2 next to IOS when it comes to how long it takes platforms to reach 50K apps.
It took Android almost 20 months to reach the Milestone compared to 14 months for Windows Phone.
