Gun-Like Avatar Items to Be Banned From Xbox Live Starting 2012?

December 26, 2011 1 Comment

I am really interested in knowing how you guys feel about this one.

Recently, Epic Games community manager Will Kinsler, has stated that Microsoft is looking to put an end to gun-like avatar props on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

“Heads up! Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, the Lancer and Hammerburst avatar items will no longer be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace,” writes Kinsler, referring to the iconic weaponry of Epic Games’ Gears of War series.  “If you’ve purchased the items prior to Jan. 1, you will be able to keep them. A new policy goes into effect for all gun-like avatar items on the Marketplace, so get them while they’re hot.”

Should Microsoft get involved? Guns from games like Halo and Gears of War are very far fetched, should we be concerned?

Note that other weapons would be ok under these new guidelines so swords and light-sabers are just fine.

Microsoft has yet to make any official announcements
