Halo: Realtime Maps Coming to Windows Phone for Xbox 360 Players via ATLAS App (video)

October 16, 2011 No Comments

343 Industries, the new development house for the Halo franchise announced yesterday at Comic Con that they will be providing Windows Phone users a leg up on the competition. An app called Atlas will be available very soon on the Windows Phone marketplace that will work as a real world GPS system while your playing either Halo Reach or the Halo Anniversary that will be available on November 15th 2011.

As a Halo player, this is an amazing app that they are working on. Having a map to look to – showing you where you team-mates and weapons are is a huge feature and a reason for some gamers to make the switch to Windows Phone.

CJ Saretto, lead producer for Halo Waypoint explained the ATLAS app further:

“We tried to imagine what a Spartan in the field might actually have if they had an assisted system from the future”

“There’s a number of set-ups that we’ve imagined, We’ve imagined the phone kind of sitting on the coffee table in front of you and you checking it out on occasion if you’re wondering what’s going on. We’ve also imagined a co-pilot style scenario where another person is watching what’s occurring while you’re playing and kind of giving you additional information.”

“We also think about, if you’re in a firefight, you’ve ducked behind a corner, you’re kind of hidden, you take time to look at where your team mates are,”

As a Windows Phone user, I am very excited about future apps finally taking advantage of other Microsoft properties. As a Halo player, I couldn’t be more hyped to being able to actually get away with such an advantage.
