Microsoft to Get $444 Million From Android Patent Deals

September 29, 2011 No Comments

Now who could of even dreamt something like this up.

Microsoft, who is battling to grab one of the top spot in the mobile industry is making tons of cash off of the one holding 1st place (for now). Recently Microsoft announced that they had cut a deal with Samsung, the largest supplier of Android devices. In that deal it is said that Samsung will have to pay Microsoft up to $10 per device sold running Google’s Android. Now, Goldman Sachs’s tech analyst team is stating that Microsoft will be generating $444 Million off of these deals a year.

“Goldman estimates that Microsoft is getting $3-$6 per Android device sold. With settlements from Samsung, HTC, and others, Goldman arrives at its estimate. It also says the patent deals will add $0.04 in EPS annually for Microsoft.”

Android is basically paying for the development of Windows Phone. I wonder how long it will take manufacturers to get the hint and start moving away from the ‘free’ but very expensive Android platform.
