Free Security Suite from AVG Actually First Windows Phone Security Threat?

September 8, 2011 No Comments

AVG has launched its Security suite for Windows Phone and is proving slowly that nothing in the world is truly free. Early on after launch it was speculated by Rafael Rivera it searches for precisely two things in your photo and music: the words EICAR and עברית (which is Hebrew for the word “Hebrew”). Now Justin Angel, former Microsoft Silverlight Program Manager has found something to definitely worry about. He has looked through the XAP files code to reveal that the AVG app is actually spyware and it tracks your geo location from startup.

He went on to actually show the world the code that proves his statement:

We suggest holding off on the download or uninstalling AVG until this all gets sorted out. The good news is that Microsoft is already taking this very seriously and is looking into it.

For those of you who don’t believe the hype or just couldn’t care less. Here is the link and the Microsoft Tag bar-code to download the AVG Free Security Suite. Just remember its free but at what price.
