Nokia Making it Just a Little Easier to Differentiate Phones

August 2, 2011 1 Comment

Usually cell phones are given a name and model number to make it sound as cool and appealing as possible, but in reality they convey almost nothing about the actual device. Nokia is taking a step to help consumers know a little bit of what to expect from a Nokia device simply by knowing the model number.

In a very logical move, Nokia has decided that cell phone model numbers should dictate the quality and price of their devices. The way this will work will be that they will have devices with model numbers from 100-900. The 100 will be the cheaper ones and the 900 will be the top of the line devices. The numbers that follow will be used to identify the characteristics of the phone.

I’m guessing that your average consumer will have no clue what the numbers mean and will simply look for something that looks and/or sounds cool.

What do you think of Nokia’s new system? Is it better for consumers to easily be able to know what device is right for them by knowing a model number or should they try to entice customers with cool names?
