Windows Phone Continues to Dominate in Marketplace Growth

July 28, 2011 1 Comment

We all know that the road to mobile domination victory for Windows Phone will be a long one. They are fighting a constant war against many things like Windows Mobile leaving a bad taste in consumers mouths to Apple and Android market-share dominance. One huge weapon that Microsoft does have in its arsenal against its opponents are its army of developers. The Windows Phone marketplace has been booming with applications and just this month we celebrated when it hit 25,000 apps.

Just how much has the Windows Phone marketplace grown this first half of 2011? Distimo just published their newest mobile and apps report and there was some good news for Windows Phone. Games on the platform have increased by 149% while all the other apps have grown by 266%. That’s pretty shocking – not only is the WP7 marketplace growing at such a high rate but with so many games that are on the platform its amazing to hear that there are even more regular apps being published at a faster rate.

The difference between the growth of games and other applications is the largest in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace: the number of available games increased by 149% while applications other than games increased by 266%. This is quite remarkable especially considering the popularity of games on this platform: 43% of the 300 most popular free and paid applications are games, and among the most popular paid apps, the first 19 most popular apps are all games.
