Swype Wants in on Windows Phone 7

July 18, 2011 1 Comment

Swype the virtual keyboard maker is hoping that Nokia will bring their technology to Windows Phone. Swype allows users to enter words by sliding a finger or stylus from letter to letter, lifting only between words.

What is fueling those hopes? Swype received a $3.5 milliion investment from Ignition Partners in March which the company plans to use to help bring the virtual keyboard to more platforms. That coupled with the fact that one of Swype’s investors is none other than Nokia. While OEM’s are generally not granted permission by Microsoft to make modifications to the Windows Phone OS, Nokia was given free range of the OS making the addition of Swype to Nokia phones a definite possibility.

I know there is always a yin and yang. While many will be happy about this there wil be many that are unhappy. I have never used Swype so I can’t comment on it but I can say that anything tht helps give Windows Phone more reognition is a good thing.
