Microsoft Sued Over WP7 ‘Really’ Advertisements
July 14, 2011 No CommentsI always thought that Microsoft’s ‘really’ ads were pretty funny, even though I felt that they needed something more to better sell the Windows Phone. Recently Cellrderm, manufacturers of novelty cell phone abuse aids have claimed that Microsoft has copied its ads. Cellrderm alleges that Microsoft and its advertising agency, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, has infringed upon the company’s copyrighted content.
The complaint filed focuses on two specific ads, the “Bedroom Really” and “Bathroom Really” commercial. Let’s take a look at the ads in questions:
I think that Cellrderm is stretching on this one. The commercials are funny because we have all heard stories of people using their phones too much and represent the worst case scenario. The guy that can’t manage to get off his cell phone even though he is right in the middle of using the bathroom. The guy that won’t even pay attention to his wife at night because he is too busy on his phone. We have all seen/heard these stories before and the commercials just represent that actuality.
BTW: Thank you Microsoft for not actually showing the phone fall into the urinal like Cellrderm did.
