Someone Made a Boo Boo, XBL Extras Beta for Mango Spotted in Marketplace

June 12, 2011 No Comments

A beta for Xbox Live Extras made its way into the Marketplace on June 10th but was subsequently removed. This beta was intended for users who are testing out Mango. Had you spotted the app and downloaded it, it unfortunately wouldn’t have been functional on a phone that does not carry the Mango software. Here’s the explanation that Lei Tracer, from Microsoft gave:

“FYI, the app “Beta Xbox Live Extras” appeared in Marketplace for a few hours on 6/10. This is a beta that is intended for internal Microsoft Mango testers and should not have appeared in the marketplace, but someone threw the wrong lever somewhere so it ended up visible. If you try to run the app you won’t see
anything because it depends on Mango libraries that aren’t available on your phone yet. The app is taken down now and the correct v1.6 of XLE should be visible now. Apologies for the confusion.”

In our society where people often benefit from “leaked” information, I always find it difficult to believe that these little mishaps are in fact mistakes. If it was done purposely then it served its’ purpose cause here I sit, writing an article on it.
