Microsoft SuperFan Reminds Me of Why We Need a Store in NYC
May 31, 2011 No CommentsHe has been dubbed SuperFan by Microsoft after shaving the Microsoft logo into his head at the Microsoft grand opening in Atlanta, Georgia.
“The un-named employee sported his new haircut during the grand opening day of Microsoft’s Atlanta store last week. The software giant opened its ninth retail store on May 27, located in the Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta, Georgia.
Microsoft’s mystery store employee was named a “superfan” by the company after his pictures went on display at Microsoft’s press center late on Friday. The company is currently planning to open a new store in Houston next month. Microsoft’s tenth retail store will be located in the Houston Galleria Mall in Houston, Texas. Following tradition, Apple also has a retail store inside the same mall. Microsoft is also planning a new store in Los Angeles during the summer.” – WinRumors
You do not get to see that excitement for Microsoft and it’s products around New York City. Especially since the Apple store opened up a few years ago. With the rumored Microsoft Store opening up in NYC finally later this year and pictures of the Atlanta opening with their SuperFan in hand, it really makes me very eager to have a Microsoft Store close by.
I believe this is exactly what Microsoft needs – to create excitement around it’s brand and it’s products. I take the stores and these stories to be a really good sign of things to come. Even if the stores themselves do not generate tons of money, they need that excitement and presence to make sure everyone takes notice. In the long term I see it as an investment for the company.
So I am super pumped for if/when Microsoft launches a store around my area – are you? For those that live close by to one of the few stores already opened – have you visited? What has been your experience?
