Rumor: Zune to be Rebranded Under Xbox and Live Services

There is a nasty little rumor going around that Zune is going to be split and rebranded into different departments in microsoft. The rumor also suggests that the announcement will also go down at the May 24th Mango event. The rumor has Zune splitting up like this…

• Xbox mobile
• Xbox Live
• Windows Live Zune

The rumor also states that the Zune back-end platform will become a “Nokia services on Azure offering, with content from Netflix, Last.fm & Hulu among others.”

I for one am hating this rumor more and more as I type this out. I love Zune exactly how it is and would not welcome a change. Zune went from being the butt of all jokes to a service that many love to use. It always comes up on top in conversations regarding which is better iTunes vs Zune, so I hope it continues it’s stride to something even better than it has become and I don’t think this is the road that leads to that.
