Game Review: Super Monkey Ball

April 11, 2011 No Comments

I was really looking forward to Super Monkey Ball. One of the games I used to love to play back in the Nintendo Gamecube days. How fustrating it used to be to get close to that finish line and just roll off the side. But you knew and felt that it was your fault. The crazy sensitive controls were in place to make sure that it was 100% on you to fail or succeed. Sad to say, this current version of the game on Windows Phone 7 doesn’t resemble those tight controls at all.

The game is very similar to any Super Monkey Ball game you have ever played. You have a ball, inside the ball is a monkey. You control the ball by tilting your phone slightly to finish the mazes and collect bananas. Get to the finish line before the time runs out (without falling of course) and you go to the next maze.

For me, this WP7 version of the game is barely playable. The visuals are nice, along with everything else except the controls. Thing is, with this type of game – controls are everything. I really hope that they update the game to make it as awesome as it could be.

Sorry monkeys you get only 2 stars for now

Game info:

Let’s roll! Guide a cute little monkey encased in a transparent ball to victory by tilting and rolling him through a variety of slopes and turns. You must navigate a large variety of obstacle courses to reach goal lines within set time limits. Collect as many bananas as you can along the way and you’ll be able to increase your remaining lives. Play through five worlds and 110 stages, designed to be fun for both first-time players and long-time Super Monkey Ball fans. Enjoy rich 3D graphics with an easy-to-master control system that utilizes the accelerometer inside your device. Insanely fun and addicting!
