Microsoft Rep Urges Users Not to Turn to Homebrew Solutions to Get NoDo

April 7, 2011 No Comments

Eric Huatala, General Manager of Customer Experience Engineering put out the weekly post regarding the NoDo update. In his post he emphasizes that users should not use homebrew solutions to get their update but should instead wait for the update to come through from your carrier. He explains that since the homebrew methods have not been fully tested there is no way of telling the effects those methods will have on your phone and if they will even end up voiding your warranty as a result. It could also, according to Hautala, misconfigure your phone which would leave your phone unable to receive future updates.

Hautala goes on to say that they are making lots of progress with the updates and for us to maintain our patience for a little while longer. In the post he also gives solutions for error 800705b4 and error 80180080.

I can understand the reasoning behind asking people to wait until they receive the update properly. Bottom line howevver is that we have had to wait far to long for something that should  have been included in the OS when it was first released. I think with the patience that has already been given to them they should ensure that those that are still waiting for their update receive it ASAP and then they should finish testing the homebrew solutions. If they find there is something that in those methods that affect your phone they should begin working on a solution for that. Truthfully if many people end up with faulty phones because of their inability to provide the update in a timely manner then they should take the responsibility for any issues that occur.
