ChevronWP7.Updater Now Offline: Microsoft Warns Not To Use It?

April 6, 2011 1 Comment

We published an article recently about how to get NoDo (March Update) on any Windows Phone 7 device using ChevronWP7.Updater. The executable works perfectly and does get you NoDo in a breeze. Now in an interesting turn of events Chris Walsh (creator of the Chevron Updater has made the file unavailable to the public. It is unknown why that is but The unwired is saying that Microsoft is warning that using the updater might cause you to be unable to update in the future unless you go back to the original stock ROM first.

In an info, Microsoft seriously warns to use ChevronWP7.Updater. According to Microsoft, the use of ChevronWP7.Updater could possibly put the updated Windows Phone 7 device into a state where it cannot receive future regular updates to the OS anymore and the only fix will be re-flashing the device with an original stock ROM. At the end of the day if could mean that such Windows Phone 7 devices have to be send to the manufacturers or carriers service centers because unlike for Windows Mobile, stock ROMs are officially not available as a public download for end-users.

Note: The above note is UNCONFIRMED since the article stated no source.

So if you have a copy of the ChevronWP7.updater be warned. You may have to reset your phone to stock before receiving any new updates.

Thanks for the tip! (you know who you are)  Smile
