IDC Says Windows Phone will be the No. 2 Mobile OS by 2015March 29, 2011 No Comments
Today IDC Released their Worldwide Forecasts for the Smartphone Market. They see some huge changes in the mobile front for the next few years. They say the iPhone will keep pretty much the same market share they have now and that Android will capture a bit more to keep it the top OS worldwide with 45% marketshare. The real story here is that they see Windows Phone 7 as the No. 2 player in the mobile world with 20.9% marketshare by 2015.
Everyone is banking on the Microsoft / Nokia Deal to really capture the market for the next couple of years.
‘Nokia’s recent announcement to shift from Symbian to Windows Phone will have significant implications for the smartphone market going forward. “Up until the launch of Windows Phone 7 last year, Microsoft has steadily lost market share while other operating systems have brought forth new and appealing experiences,” added Llamas. “The new alliance brings together Nokia’s hardware capabilities and Windows Phone’s differentiated platform. We expect the first devices to launch in 2012. By 2015, IDC expects Windows Phone to be number 2 operating system worldwide behind Android.”‘
