Rumor: Nokia Developing Exclusive Features for WP7

March 21, 2011 No Comments

Everyone has had their eyes on Microsoft and Nokia ever since Nokia announced that they will be abandoning their Symbian OS in order to fully support Windows Phone 7. To add a nice little twist to that partnership there is a rumor that Nokia WP7 devices will have capabilities that the other OEM’s will not have. Nokia’s WP7 OS is expected to be shown at the 2012 Mobile World Congess where it will showcase “several new software upgrades, exclusive functions for Nokia phones and software that will not be available for other manufacturers who licence the OS” according to European Nokia sources.

If this rumor holds any truth to it what will be the reaction of Samsung, HTC, and LG who have supported Windows Phone 7 from the beginning? I wonder if perhaps this will begin an upward progression for WP7 where all the manufacturers continue to make major improvements and add special features in order to be able to compete. Or instead will this cause a rift between them and Microsoft? So far this is purely speculation but I sincerely hope this means more good than bad.
