Nokia Has a Two Year Plan to Phase Out Symbian

March 13, 2011 No Comments

With all eyes on Nokia people are wondering what their plans are for Symbian. Apparently they have put some thought into that matter. Nokia has developed a two year plan to begin phasing out symbian. Nokia still intends to release Symbian devices through 2013 where it will then go strictly WP7. I wonder if this makes sense. I can understand that they have yet to put out a WP7 phone so they still have to cater to their Symbian market. However, I am left with the question of whether Symbian will receive as much developer support as it would have had Nokia kept Symbian their primary focus. Assuming there is a lack of deveoper support will people continue to be loyal to Symbian?

Nokia is slated to release its’ first Nokia phone for WP7 later this year. They are planning to offer phones with wide range in cost, which certainly differs from the WP7 phones available now since they are all in the same price range. In offering a variation of smartphones they are hoping  hoping to appeal to those who have yet to make the transition to smartphone. Let’s see if that marketing strategy works.
